Our Charitable Objects
Lord Crewe’s Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and our charitable objects are set out in section 3 of our constitution.
3.1 The objects of the CIO are, for the benefit of the public:
3.1.1 The advancement of religion by:
- (a) augmenting the stipends of necessitous clergy and their dependants in the Dioceses of Durham and Newcastle, particularly for the education of their children, and assisting them in other demonstrable financial need;
- (b) the repair or construction of churches, chancels and parsonages in any ecclesiastical parish in which the charity owns land or to which the charity has the right of presentation to the benefice; and
- (c) providing financial support to Anglican clergy of various ecclesiastical parishes as determined by the trustees from time to time for religious education within those parishes.
3.1.2 The relief of poverty by:
- (a) providing financial relief for the general benefit of the inhabitants of the Dioceses of Durham and Newcastle, giving preference to people and groups resident in parishes where the charity owns land or has the right of presentation to the benefice.
3.1.3 The advancement of education by:
- (a) providing financial subsidies to university students at Lincoln College at theUniversity of Oxford, or for any other charitable purposes connected with Lincoln College; and
- (b) providing other financial subsidies to educational institutions, whether in the ecclesiastical parish in which the charity owns land or has the right of presentation to the benefice or otherwise.
3.1.4 The relief of sickness by providing such assistance (financial and otherwise) to such beneficiaries resident in the Dioceses of Durham and Newcastle as the trustees shall from time to time decide.
3.1.5 For other charitable purposes which the trustees shall from time to time determine for the benefit of residents of the ecclesiastical parishes in which the charity owns land or to which the charity has the right of presentation to the benefice
