Support for Vulnerable Learners

St Hild’s Church of England School in Hartlepool is in one of the 10% most deprived parishes in England.  A ‘Vulnerable Learners Lead’ began work in January 2022, giving targeted support to and their families, aiming for high levels of attendance and good standards of behaviour and attitudes to learning.

In the first year there was a marked improvement in attendance overall (above the national average for the first time in a number of years) and a decrease in referrals to social care, police and health services.  Referrals were followed through quickly to put appropriate support in place.

Lord Crewe’s Charity funded this pilot project for two years, at the end of which, if successful, the post will be integrated into the school’s core provision and the model shared.
